Driving School
Since it’s founding in 1902, AAA has worked to make our roadways as safe
a possible. That’s why in 1935 we wrote the world’s first Driver
Education textbook Sportsmanlike Driving.
AAA believes an educated driver is a more effective decision-maker. The ever-increasing demands of the highway system - more drivers, more vehicles, more stress - underscore the need for a better driver education and training system. Novice drivers particularly need rigorous instruction and training to develop safe driving practices, improve perceptual abilities and manage time and space in traffic. This can be best achieved through professional and highly trained instructors, the availability of uniform driver education and training content, individualized instruction and gradual introduction into the driving system.
As an advocate for safe driving, AAA is concerned by the decline in the availability of quality driver education and training programs both in the public and private sectors and believes such programs should be an essential element of the educational function of the public school system. Driver education and training opportunities are declining at a time when the teen population is increasing dramatically and the nation’s novice drivers still incur more fatalities and injuries per-vehicle-mile driven than any other age group.
In keeping with the AAA philosophy of quality driver education AAA Northern New England has opened novice driving schools in Maine and New Hampshire.
With two locations serving members in Portland Maine and Hooksett New Hampshire,
AAA Driving School takes a comprehensive approach to driver education. Not
only are new driver skills and knowledge developed, but also attitudes toward
driving tasks are discussed, debated and appreciated. Today’s new drivers
face heavier traffic, complex traffic controls and highway systems, and rapidly
changing automobile design. Safe performance behind the wheel is an essential
survival skill for anyone, but it’s especially critical for young people,
who are as a group, over-represented in vehicle crashes.
