AAA Roadwise ReviewTM Frequently Asked Questions

Did you know?

AAA Roadwise ReviewTM is an easy-to-use tool allowing self-assessment at your own home computer.

AAA Roadwise ReviewTM is available to Auto Club members at an Auto Club office near you for only $5 (nonmembers pay $7).

Review the technical FAQ if you have questions about installing the software.

A general FAQ answers general questions about senior mobility.

The Auto Club offers a safe driving class for mature drivers.

Q. What are the system requirements?
A. AAA Roadwise Review is recommended for PCs running Windows® XP, 2000, ME or 98 with a 633 MHz or faster processor. Windows 98 users may need to upgrade their video card or amount of RAM.

Q. My computer rebooted after the install, but the program did not begin.
A. After you correctly install the program and reboot your computer, a Roadwise Review icon can be found on your desktop. Double-clicking this icon will start the program.

Q. I do not have anything to measure 10 feet (three meters) — must it be exact?
A. A couple of inches one way or the other should not affect your results. But, the tests in this program were scientifically validated using the distance of 10 feet (three meters), so get as close to this distance as you can. Here's one idea: a standard piece of typing paper or notebook paper is 11 inches long — 11 pieces laid end to end would be just one inch over 10 feet.

Q. Why are some of the install options unchecked?
A. The install program checks to see if you have software installed on your PC that is required to run Roadwise Review. If you already have all the software on your PC, then all of the install options will be automatically unchecked by default. However, you can check the box for any option if you would like to reinstall the software. This may be necessary if Roadwise Review does not run correctly on your computer.

Q. Why can't I use my Windows 95 computer to run the software?
A. Roadwise Review works best on computers that can play Windows Media Video (or files ending in ".wmv"). Although some older computers will play the MPEG version of the video, computers running Windows 95 typically need special MPEG-1 decoder boards installed in their computer to play back MPEG-1 smoothly. So, even if the software did install on a Windows 95 computer, it would not run. To avoid the frustration of taking time to install the software only to find out it won't work, a message box appears when the install program is started indicating that the software cannot be installed on the computer.

Q. Why are my results not displayed after completing the test?
A. This occurs when the program encounters three timing errors when trying to display the objects for this test. If your computer is more than about two years old, there may not be anything you can do to rectify this problem. However, if you have a newer computer or one that is considered "high-end" even though it is over two years old, you might want to try closing down unneeded processes that are running on your computer. Such processes can interfere with the precise timing required to run Roadwise Review without timing errors.

Q. Why doesn't the video play?
A. Try reinstalling the software paying attention to any messages that are displayed. It is possible that the install process did not complete.

Q. I chose to save my Roadwise Review results — where were they saved?
A. Your results were saved to your desktop. You can view these at any time by simply locating and double-clicking on the icon labeled "Roadwise Review Results." The file should open automatically in the Paint program. If it doesn't, right click on the icon and select "Open With" and then look for a graphic editor program in the list.

Q. How do I uninstall Roadwise Review?
A. Go to and hold down Start button in the lower left corner of the computer screen > Go to Programs > AAA Roadwise Review > Uninstall AAA Roadwise Review.

Q. Where can I get additional assistance?
A. For additional help with installation or use, please contact webmaster@aaanne.com.
